  • Is the exam available to take any time?
    The CHC Certification Exam is offered twice per year in April and October and can be scheduled Monday-Friday during exam months. Registration is open for seven weeks prior to the exam month.
  • How do I apply or register to take the exam?

Candidates from the U.S. or Canada: Candidates must apply for an eligibility review by completing a MyCHC (Certemy) application. Once approved, candidates will receive instructions to register for and schedule the exam. Fees: Application fee: $35 Registration fee: $500 for new candidates, $325 for retakes International Candidates: Candidates from outside the U.S. or Canada must apply for a pre-qualification evaluation before applying for the exam. Once the qualifications have been evaluated and approved, eligible candidates must then submit a MyCHC (Certemy) application. Once approved, candidates will receive instructions to register for and schedule the exam.   • How much does the exam cost?

  • Can I retake the exam if I do not pass?
    Yes. Candidates may retake the exam once during each of the next two exam cycles. The exam may not be retaken within the same cycle (month). Candidates who fail the exam three times must wait one full year before retaking the exam again. Please contact chcinfo@homeopathicdirectory.com to request instructions for registering to retake the exam.
  • How long does it take to apply for the exam?
    Registration is open for seven weeks prior to each exam cycle. All applications received between the seven-week registration period will be reviewed before registration closes. The CHC encourages candidates to apply as early as possible to allow ample time for the application to be processed.

  • Will I know right away if I pass or fail the exam?
    At the end of the exam, a provisional score will immediately appear unless you're testing during a beta exam cycle*. Final scores are emailed 2 weeks after the close of the exam cycle. *During beta exam cycles, scores are provided within 6-8 weeks after the end of the exam cycle, or after the psychometric evaluation process has been completed.
  • Can I begin using the CCH credential immediately after passing the exam?
    After a candidate has passed the exam, a CCH practitioner will conduct an orientation before the CCH credential is awarded. Candidates will receive an email from CHC with instructions to coordinate the orientation. Orientations can be conducted virtually or by phone.
  • Will I receive a certificate?
    Printed certificates are provided to newly passing candidates. Candidates who remain in good standing (those who complete annual recertification) receive an updated digital certificate each year. Digital certificates are available in the MyCHC/Certemy Digital Wallet for all new and existing Certified Classical Homeopaths.
  • What is a psychometric evaluation?
    The CHC exam is designed to measure the entry level competence required to practice classical homeopathy. As part of the exam design process, determining the cut score (i.e., the score needed to pass) is undertaken by a panel of CCH-certified practitioners under the direction of Kryterion, an internationally recognized psychometric and testing consulting firm. The study sets a benchmark on a 182-scored items test (Up to 40 items on each test are pilot items that are incorporated into future exams; these items are not scored.) A modified Angoff methodology is used and, after reviewing data from the exam, a cut score on a scaled score of 100-300 is recommended by a panel of CHC certified Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to the CHC Board. The CHC Board ratifies the recommendation. All versions of the test are statistically equated.
  • What is the difference between a provisional score and a final score?
    Exam Scoring: Standardized score (similar to SAT scoring) Score range: 100-300 Passing score: 255 A provisional score is given immediately upon completion of the exam. A final score is emailed 2 weeks after the close of the exam cycle.
  • Can I take the exam if I live outside of the U.S. and Canada?
    Currently, exams are offered only in the US or Canada.
  • Where do I take the exam?
    Candidates may take the exam at a Kryterion/Webassessor testing center location of their choice or from their personal computer using a remote proctor.   • Can I take the exam if I graduated from a non-accredited school?
    Applicants who completed their homeopathic education from non-accredited ACHENA or CHO schools outside the United States or Canada must be approved by the CHC Pre-Qualification Evaluation Committee (PQE) before being eligible to apply to take the CHC Certification Examination.   • How do I know if my school is accredited?
    Please contact the school that you are interested or enrolled in to confirm their accreditation status, or contact the Accreditation Commission for Homeopathic Education in North America (ACHENA) or the College of Homeopaths (CHO) directly.
  • Am I eligible to take the exam?
    Graduates from ACHENA or CHO approved schools may apply to take the exam during the next open registration. Registration opens in February (for the April exam) and in August (for the October exam). To apply, open our Exam page then click Register. All other candidates who meet minimum eligibility requirements must request a Pre-Qualification Evaluation before applying for the exam: International Graduates Graduates of non-accredited programs in 2019

  • What happens if I miss the recertification deadline?
    Certified Classical Homeopaths may recertify their CCH credential by meeting recertification requirements and the steps in MyCHC on or before December 31st. Recertifications completed in MyCHC after December 31st will accrue late fees. Late fees are as follows: If submitted between January 1st - Feb 28th: Recertification Fee: $170 Late Fee: $75 See the Recertification Handbook for additional details
  • Do I have to recertify?
    Certified Classical Homeopaths (CCHs) are both licensed and non-licensed practitioners who are dedicated to the profession and achieve extensive training to meet the requirements for the CHC exam. CCHs have a sense of achievement and are proud to hold the credential as evidence of their professional competence. Active CCHs maintain their credential by gaining knowledge and expertise through annual practices, education, and volunteering in the homeopathic community, then completing an annual recertification process. Carrying the CCH credential promotes homeopathy as a recognized profession and equates homeopathy with other certified healthcare professions. An active CCH credential qualifies homeopaths to: Be listed in the Find a Homeopath directory Develop future certification exams and participate in task forces or CHC committees Be considered for nomination to the CHC Board of Directors Maintaining the CCH credential is evidence of a dedication to build professional knowledge An active certified homeopath is eligible for benefits that strengthens the community such as: Professional liability insurance Benefits offered by homeopathy organizations and pharmacies If recertification requirements are not met by December 31st recertification deadline, the CCH credential lapses, and the homeopath may no longer use the CCH credential. Reactivation of a lapsed credential is possible if the credential has been lapsed for two (2) years or less. Reactivation of a lapsed credential requires four actions: Complete and submit the CCH Credential Reactivation Form Upload documentation of 15 CEUs per lapsed year (see Recertification CEU Requirements) Pay $170 recertification per lapsed year(s) Pay $100 reactivation fee If the credential has been lapsed for more than two years, the credential is expired. Expired certificants may reactivate the credential by retaking the CHC Exam.
  • Do I have to recertify if I passed the exam this year?
    Annual recertification is required for each Certified Classical Homeopath to maintain good standing status and is due on December 31st of the year following the year of the exam that the candidate passed.   • What is recertification?
    CHC annual Recertification builds CCH practitioner knowledge beyond entry-level. Each year certificate holders recertify for homeopathy practice in the coming year by completing 15 continued educational units, annual attestations, and paying $170 by December 31st.

  • Why do I need CEUs?
    The recertification process requires CHC-certified practitioners to maintain and enhance skills and knowledge beyond the minimum competence achieved through initial certification. Through Continuing Professional Development (CPD), practitioners safeguard quality services for the general public and reinforce professional accountability to homeopathic and other healthcare communities. CPD involves two important steps: Participation in ACHENA-approved continuing education events or other approved activities that support professional development and personal growth to obtain continued education units (CEUs) Submission and evaluation of recertification requirements within a standardized process
  • How do I get CEUs?
    Certified Classical Homeopaths obtain CEUs by participating in continuing education events or other approved activities that support professional development and personal growth. CEUs are categorized by: Category I: Attendance at or by completion of educational or approved professional programs and activities relevant to professional classical homeopathy practice (Min 10 Units/Year) Category II: Non-ACHENA approved, homeopathic programs and courses, and other qualifying activities not directly related to classical homeopathy but directly relevant to providing professional service to clients (Min 5 Units/Year) View All Approved CEU Activities

  • How many CEUs do I need?

  • What documentation do I need to prove my CEU?
    CEU Documentation: What's Need for Recertification? Each approved CEU activity requires unique documentation to upload for recertification, and not all activities will come with a certificate of attendance. For instance, CEU documentation for publishing a book will look much different than CEU documentation for attending a workshop. How do you know what information to upload? The rule of thumb is to provide information that will guide the Continued Professional Development (CPD) committee to view and confirm the approved activity, and to confirm that the activity was performed within the current recertification period. Examples of the type of information to upload: Name of approved activity or publication Location / URL Date of activity or published date Event contact info Flyer Certificate of attendance # of CEU units Documents should be uploaded into Certemy with as much description as possible so that the CPD committee can verify them quickly and easily.   • Can I use leftover CEUs?
    Yes! Currently the maximum annual continued professional development requirement is 15 CEU. If you earned more than 15 CEU in a recertification cycle, you may choose to use the remaining CEU for the next recertification cycle, as long as the activity was within 24 months of the deadline. These are sometimes referred to as "carry-overs" or "roll-overs".
  • How do I add or manage my Find a Provider listing?
    The Find a Provider directory lists all Certified Classical Homeopaths that are in good standing. The system will return a list of homeopaths that match the search criteria only if they hold a current certification.   • What is MyCHC?
    The CHC uses a professional certification management system called MyCHC to help you keep track of your credential from application to recertification.

  • What is Kryterion/Webassessor?
    The CHC uses Kryterion Testing Network centers. The CHC Exam is a valid and reliable measure of an individual’s knowledge and skill in classical homeopathy required for an entry-level certified practitioner of homeopathy. The CHC is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and is the only accredited certification organization in homeopathy. Individuals who have met the CHC Homeopathic Educational Requirements are eligible to take the exam.
  • In which states is it legal to practice homeopathy?

However, many professional homeopaths choose this board-certified achievement and credential (CCH) to designate themselves as qualified practitioners. Several benefits of certification are as follows: CHC certification is important for consumers who are seeking credentialed homeopathic practitioners.
